Mixing Pizza Dough
Pizza dough is simple to mix. The ingredients can be mixed together by hand, using a food processor, a mixer with a dough hook, or in your bread machine. In general, you need to combine the yeast, water, and part of the flour. This can be mixed until blended. Then add in the rest of the flour and the remaining ingredients. The dough should be kneaded until the dough is smooth and elastic, usually about 5-10 minutes. Place the dough into a greased bowl and turn to coat the entire ball of dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise until it is doubled in size. This usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. Punch the dough down, and let it rise for another hour or so.
Now your dough is ready to handle, either by rolling or tossing. If you are using a bread machine, it is even simpler. Place your ingredients in the bread machine pan in the following order: Wet ingredients (water, oil, honey, etc.), sugar, and salt go in first. Then, measure in the flour, and finally, add the yeast. Choose the dough setting and turn the machine on. That’s all there is to it.
